FAQ about therapy

  • No, my practice is inclusive and welcoming to all. I work with people of all genders, including men, non-binary, and transgender individuals.

My clients are usually 16 and older and people from all minority groups.

My goal is to create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

  • Absolutely! It's totally normal to feel nervous about starting therapy. Talking about feelings can be tough, and the fear around it can feel overwhelming. Just by reading this, you're already taking a step in the right direction. Therapy with me is a space where you can be yourself, including feeling nervous. I'm committed to making our sessions as comfortable as possible and am here to talk about it during a free phone consultation if you'd like.

  • Take your time to explore my website. If you feel a connection based on what you read, you can email me to schedule a free phone consultation. During this call, you can ask me about my experience, what it's like to work with me, or any other questions you have. The first few sessions are like an experiment to see how things go. It's important that you find someone who feels like the right fit for you, and we can explore that together.

  • It's natural to avoid discussing painful or difficult topics. In our sessions, you are never obligated to talk about anything you're not ready to share. My job is to give you space to work through tough issues at your own pace. If you're nervous about opening up, we can talk about that too. Whatever you're going through, bring it to your session, and we can explore it together.

  • If you open up to me, I will see you as courageous and human. Many clients fear that their experiences might not be believed, but I assure you that your feelings are valid. Nothing you say will cause me to judge you. We all struggle and have our strengths and weaknesses. Whatever you're going through, I provide a comfortable space where I will listen and support you fully.

  • The duration of therapy varies for each client. On average, new clients start seeing improvements after the first 3-4 sessions, feeling more calm and hopeful. Some clients find 6-12 weeks sufficient for gaining insights into their challenges, while others prefer longer-term therapy. We'll work together to find the length of time that works best for you. I do not believe in a one-size fits all approach to therapy.

  • Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Unless you are in danger or someone else is, everything you share with me remains confidential. I highly respect your privacy and value your trust. If you have specific questions about how confidentiality works, feel free to ask during your free phone consultation or at any time during our work together.

  • The first session is a free-flowing conversation where we start getting to know each other. I’ll invite you to share more about yourself and discuss what has worked or not worked for your mental health in the past. I might ask questions like:

    - What brought you to therapy?

    - Have you gone to therapy before? How did that go?

    - What goals would you like to reach by going to therapy?

You can also ask me questions, such as why I became a therapist or how I've helped other clients. The goal is to see if you feel safe, accepted, and comfortable with me. If you do, we can discuss meeting again.

  • Let's discover how I can help you! Reach out for your free phone consultation. During our call, we can get to know each other and see if we're a good fit. You can share a bit about what's going on and what you're looking for. This is also a great time to ask me any questions about working with me, why I became a therapist, how I can help, or anything else that's on your mind.

FAQ about fees and office policy

  • Investing in your mental health is one of the best decisions you can make! The initial intake session is $225, where we’ll get to know each other and create a personalized plan for your journey. Following that, each 50-minute session is $200. This investment is in your well-being, growth, and overall happiness.

  • My practice is considered a cash practice, which means payment is due at the time of service. Payment can be made by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and many FSH or HSA accounts.

While I do not directly take insurance, I can still help you navigate insurance reimbursement. By providing a Superbill, you can seek potential reimbursement from your insurance company.

Please keep in mind that this process involves assigning a medical diagnosis, which could remain on your health record. Additionally, detailed notes may be documented and shared with your insurance company. If you choose to go this route, the Superbill will be automatically generated monthly and emailed to you for your convenience.

Be sure to check with your insurance provider about their reimbursement policies and what they cover. All policies and insurance companies differ.

  • I get that life happens! If you need to cancel an appointment, please give me at least 24-hour notice. If you don’t provide notice in time or you miss your appointment, the full session fee will apply. The credit card you have on file will be charged, or if we've made other payment arrangements, the fee will be due at the beginning of your next session.

To cancel your appointment, you have a few easy options:

Call or Text: I am reachable at (360) 234-3296. If I am unable to answer, please leave a message.

Secure Messaging: Use your client portal on Simple Practice: TRS Integrated Therapy Client Portal

Email: Send me a note at at tammy@tammyshultz.com

Please avoid responding to the auto-generated texts or emails that confirm appointments or sending invoices, as they are not monitored.
