Helping teens develop the ability to handle life as a teen.
Life as a teen can be really hard. Most adolescents who start therapy feel overwhelmed with all the teen things. From academics to body image to feeling stuck. Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you're noticing that your teen complains a lot about feeling stressed, tired, and unfulfilled or they are glued to their phone, not because they want to be, but to escape. Maybe they are avoiding people and spending more time shut away in their room. Or maybe they are stuck in negativity and feeling hopeless.
They may feel like life is overwhelming, like it's too much.
Does Your Teen Feel Worried, Moody, Overwhelmed?
Do any of the following resonate with you?
They are super overwhelmed with academics and all the other teen-life-stuff.
They struggle with their relationships with friends or family.
They struggle with body issues or body image.
They are exploring their identity, like being bisexual, nonbinary, or queer.
They are self harming like cutting or under-eating.
They are striving to be perfect.
If these sound true for you, I want you to know that you might feel exhausted, worried that your teen is pulling away. Or maybe you no longer know what to do.
It takes courage to reach out to a professional for help. And I'm here for that.
Sometimes teens just need to know they aren't alone, that there's help, and that therapy is an option.
Sometimes you just need to know that there is another person available.

You might be wondering, “but why would my teen speak to a therapist when they won’t even speak to me?” And as an experienced therapist, I want to assure you that therapy can help them open up and start feeling better.
I've helped teens who feel like life is too much find their way. I love helping teens discover that it's possible to cope with life, form connections, and build a happy life.
My name is Tammy Shultz and I am a therapist and compassionate human who is here to help.
How Therapy for Teens Works
First, I provide a safe, accepting space so they will feel comfortable sharing their struggles with me.
Through hearing their story, I will start to get a picture of what challenges your teen is facing.
We will start by helping with the immediate concerns like managing difficult emotions and challenging life situations.
We will also work to discover what their goals are in therapy and in life.
Keeping their unique goals in mind, we’ll figure out what’s needed to help reach them.
Over the course of the sessions, they will start making progress towards their goals and the life they desire.
Therapy for teens consists of 50-minute, one-on-one sessions that help them work through their concerns. In addition to listening, I will ask questions and teach actual ways your teen can move through the tough stuff.
I play an active role. Here’s how it will work step-by-step:
As Their Parent, & Their Biggest Supporter, You Can Help Too
Therapy for your teen will begin with a parent/caretaker intake. This involves an online intake form and a one-on-one session where we review family history and you can tell me about what is happening and about your concerns.
I will meet with your teen. We will then decide if a weekly or every other week schedule is best.
Your continued involvement will depend on what is happening with your teen and the approach we all decide upon going forward. Sometimes it is quick check-ins at the beginning of your teens session or a 20-minute check-in monthly or every 4-6 sessions.
Research shows that therapy for teens can positively change thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. It can help them get the direction they need to create a fun, fulfilling future.
