Hello & Welcome!
I'm Tammy, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. My passion is helping individuals who are struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, body image concerns, and disordered eating.
Life can be overwhelming, and my goal is to support you in overcoming these challenges, helping you move from feeling overwhelmed and anxious to living a more balanced and fulfilling life.
I am not your typical therapist. I’m real, and I’m going to be straight with you. I don’t have a poker face, and if a swear word here and there doesn’t make you cringe, then we might be a good match! With a compassionate and client-centered approach, I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Together, we will work on identifying your goals and developing strategies to achieve them, fostering a path toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Thank you for considering me as your therapist. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey!
My Journey To Becoming A Therapist
My personal journey and growth through emotional and mental health challenges deeply influences my work. While our stories may differ, I’ve also had to find the courage to make significant changes in my life. Growing up in a chaotic and dysfunctional environment, and facing various life hardships, I realized the importance of healing. This personal experience enables me to connect with my clients on a unique level.
As a child and often as an adult, I felt pressured to look, act, or feel certain ways, and I experienced things that were out of my control. This led to anxiety, a negative self-image, and coping in ways that were definitely not helpful and some were just plain harmful. Striving for perfection, I often ignored my own needs and feelings. I stayed in harmful relationships while trying to please and protect others.
As a recently divorced, single mom of two amazing children with disabilities, I went to graduate school for a career combining mental health and nutrition. I appeared to "have it all together" while secretly struggling. Despite the challenges, I discovered that as I grew and healed, my relationships improved. This was especially true with my children and myself.
Through vulnerability, honesty, self-compassion, and the help of others, I learned to be present and to stand up for myself. My journey has taught me the value of self-acceptance and the courage to be true to oneself, to be visible, and to find my voice.
My Passion for Nutritional Therapy
My interest in the connection between nutrition and mental health began after the birth of my children, both who have unique health needs. Through extensive research, I discovered how dietary adjustments and specific nutrients could significantly impact their well-being. Despite facing criticism for my unconventional approach, I witnessed firsthand how the remarkable impact nutrition can have on individuals.
Listening to our bodies and honoring our intuition can lead to profound changes. I am dedicated to helping you discover what works uniquely for you, sharing the insights I've gained over the years. There isn’t one way that works best for everyone. We are all unique and deserve to feel confident in our choices.
Being a therapist is truly an honor. I find immense joy in helping people become healthier and more empowered, watching their lives flourish. The most rewarding part of my work is seeing clients leave sessions feeling lighter, freer, and more ready to embrace life.
Helping People Is a Gift
A Genuine Interest in Others
I bring an open, compassionate, and non-judgmental energy to my sessions. I have a natural ability to understand people's experiences, help them identify their feelings, and inspire hope for improvement. Clients often describe me as a good listener who can be fully present, even with difficult stories. I am known for my direct yet compassionate approach and my willingness to share a laugh about my lack of a poker face.
Our Sessions Are Focused on You
Our sessions will provide a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and goals. I am committed to offering a non-judgmental environment where you can be yourself and feel understood. Your feedback and questions are always welcome, and our sessions will be tailored to fit your specific needs and concerns.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Seattle University in 1999. After spending 12 years at home raising my children, I returned to the workforce and then to graduate school. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling from Saint Martin’s University in 2017. I became a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner through the Nutritional Therapy Association in 2014.
